Dedication to Barbara Felts

My high school choir: Mrs. Felts is the director in the picture and I am to the left of her

This website is dedicated to Barbara Felts who was my high school choir director.  I feel like she is a woman of God and a person who followed her calling from God through adversity in her life.  Barbara Felts originally grew up in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and went to Christian County High School.  She was very involved in the music at her high school through the choir and band.  After taking her ACT and making a low score, a guidance counsellor told her that it would be impossible for her to go to college.  The counsellor said that she would not be able to handle college since she did so poorly on the ACT.  Instead of this discouraging her, Mrs. Felts decided to attempt to go to college anyways despite the remarks from her guidance counsellor.  Barbara Felts graduated from Murray State University at the top of her class and got a degree in music.  She returned to Hopkinsville to be the choir director at Hopkinsville High School.  At Hopkinsville High, Mrs. Felts transformed Hopkinsville's choir into a powerhouse.  The choir went to national competitions 14 out of her 19 years as director at the high school.  The choir also won regionals and were state finalists all of her years at the school.  Not only was Mrs. Felts a great choir director but she was also a very caring person.  She had geniune care for the students as individuals and pushed them to succeed.  She was always willing to help her students out and had great love for her students.  She was also a very funny person to be around and was unpredicable.  I feel like Mrs. Felts is a great example of a person who followed her calling.  Although she was discouraged from continuing, she didn't give up and become one Kentucky high school's greatest choir directors.  She has touched so many young lives through her work.
